About Picos Airport
Sen. Helvídio Nunes Regional Airport, commonly known as Picos Airport, is the main air gateway for Picos and the central-southern region of Piauí. It is named after Helvídio Nunes de Barros, a former mayor of Picos, governor of Piauí and senator, and is operated by Esaero.
Located about 8 km northwest of central Picos, the airport has a single asphalt runway and one passenger terminal. It primarily supports general aviation, air taxis and medical transport, including nighttime SAMU aéreo operations enabled by a 2023 upgrade that added runway lighting.
Regional air services connect Picos with the state capital, Teresina, with Azul Conecta operating the route. Ground access is straightforward via the BR-316 highway, with taxis and private transfers covering the short trip to the city centre.
Recent works renovated the runway, apron, passenger terminal and access roads, improving safety and passenger comfort while keeping the airport a practical, compact gateway for southeastern Piauí.
