About Niigata Airport

Niigata Airport is the main international and domestic gateway for Niigata City and the wider Niigata Prefecture on the Sea of Japan coast. It serves both leisure and business travelers with domestic routes across Japan and international connections to Northeast Asia.

The airport opened in 1930 and now operates a modern passenger terminal that opened in 1996, with separate domestic and international areas and a 2,500-metre runway. Domestic services connect Niigata with Sapporo, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka and Okinawa, while international flights serve Seoul, Shanghai, Harbin and Taipei.

Located about 6.7 km northeast of JR Niigata Station, the airport is easily reached by limousine and regular buses in roughly 25 to 35 minutes, as well as by taxi, rental car and road links. Shuttle services also connect passengers toward the Sado Island ferry terminal and nearby onsen areas.

Passenger facilities include a lounge, restaurants, cafés, shops, a duty-free store, free Wi-Fi and family and accessibility services, making the airport a compact and convenient starting point for travel around Niigata and neighboring regions.
