About Nepalgunj Airport
Nepalgunj Airport is the main domestic gateway serving Nepalgunj and western Nepal. Located in Banke District, Lumbini Province, it connects the sub-metropolitan city with Kathmandu and a number of hill airstrips in Karnali Province, and it functions as an important regional hub for travellers heading into remote western districts.
The airport has been in service since 1961 and has grown into one of Nepal's busiest regional airports. A new two-storey terminal completed in 2025 added modern check-in, security, arrival and retail facilities and includes infrastructure designed for future international flights. The single asphalt runway has been extended to about 1,700 metres and is equipped for scheduled operations.
Situated roughly 5 km north of the city centre, the airport is reached quickly by taxi or private car along local roads. From there, travellers can continue to Bardia National Park, the Karnali hill districts and other destinations in western Nepal.
With check-in counters, lounges, dining and retail options, the airport provides a practical base for domestic connections and onward road travel across the region.
