Nekemte Gudina Tumsa Airport is the main airport serving Nekemte and the surrounding western Oromia Region. The new airport facility was inaugurated in June 2024, improving air access to the area with a modern airfield, access road and passenger terminal infrastructure.
Located about 28 km from central Nekemte near Uke-Karsa, the airport is served by Ethiopian Airlines domestic flights, which currently operate three times a week between Addis Ababa and Nekemte. The single runway is designed for Boeing 737-800 Max aircraft, and the apron can accommodate two 737-800 Max or four Q-400 aircraft at a time.
The airport plays an important role in connecting Nekemte and the surrounding coffee- and fruit-producing areas of western Oromia to the rest of Ethiopia and onward international destinations via Addis Ababa. It is reached by road from Nekemte, with taxis, private transfers, rental cars and group transport options available for the journey into town.
Passengers currently use a temporary terminal while construction of a permanent terminal is planned. Facilities remain compact, and travelers are advised to allow enough time for the road journey from Nekemte town before their flight.
