Located about 14 km from the Negele Boran town centre, the airport is a compact facility. A modernized airport station was inaugurated in 2026 as Ethiopian Airlines' 24th domestic destination, with three weekly flights to improve access to the region.
The airport handles domestic passenger operations, and travellers continue to the town by taxi, pre-arranged transfers or limited local transport. Road travel between the airport and Negele Boran typically takes around 15 to 20 minutes.
As a small regional airport, passenger facilities are basic, so visitors should plan ahead. The airport remains an important connection point for people travelling within southern Ethiopia and onward from Addis Ababa.
