About Muzaffarpur Airport
Muzaffarpur Airport is a civil airport serving Muzaffarpur and the surrounding areas of northern Bihar. It is located at Patahi, about five kilometres west of the city centre, and is operated by the Airports Authority of India.
The airport was originally developed for the arrival of Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, and handled regular flight operations between Muzaffarpur and Patna from 1967 to 1982. It currently has no scheduled commercial services, but a redevelopment programme is underway to upgrade the runway and add a new terminal building, ATC tower, fire station and other supporting infrastructure.
Once the upgrade is complete, Muzaffarpur is expected to support small regional aircraft and improve air connectivity for north Bihar under the regional connectivity scheme. The airport is positioned as a gateway to the city and nearby districts, with road links toward Patna, Hajipur and Vaishali.
From the airport, travellers can reach central Muzaffarpur in roughly 10 to 15 minutes by taxi, private transfer or local road transport, making onward journeys around the city and region relatively straightforward.
