Mui River Airport is a remote airstrip serving Omo National Park in southern Ethiopia and the nearby village of Mui, which lies about 1 km to the east. It provides essential air access to one of the country's most isolated conservation areas.
The airport is not served by scheduled commercial flights. Charter aircraft, mainly from Addis Ababa or Jinka, carry park visitors, researchers, conservation teams and supplies, while rough seasonal tracks connect the airstrip to park headquarters on the Mui River and surrounding areas.
Located roughly 870 km southwest of Addis Ababa and about 90 km from Jinka, the nearest town, the airstrip operates as a small, low-frills landing ground with no formal terminal building. Travelers rely on pre-arranged 4WD vehicles and local guides for onward movement.
Facilities are minimal, so visitors must be largely self-sufficient, bringing food, water and communications equipment. Even so, the airstrip plays an important role for park management, anti-poaching work and access to the wildlife and cultural heritage of the Omo Valley.
