Mount Fuji Shizuoka Airport is the main air gateway for Shizuoka Prefecture, serving the cities of Shizuoka and Hamamatsu and the surrounding Pacific coast region. Opened on 4 June 2009, the airport provides domestic flights across Japan together with scheduled international services to nearby Asian cities.
The airport lies between Shizuoka and Hamamatsu, on the border of Makinohara and Shimada. Its name reflects the prefecture's most famous landmark, Mount Fuji, which can be seen from the terminal and observation deck on clear days despite being around 80 kilometres away.
A single passenger terminal building handles domestic and international flights, with check-in and arrivals on the first floor and departures on the second floor. Travelers can reach Shizuoka Station by airport bus in about 50–55 minutes, while buses to the nearby Shimada Station take roughly 25 minutes and the Tomei Expressway interchange is only about five kilometres from the terminal.
