About Morón Air Base
Morón Air Base is a military airfield located in southern Spain, approximately 50 km southeast of Seville and 17 km northwest of Morón de la Frontera. It serves as a joint Spanish and United States Air Force installation and plays an important role in military aviation in Andalusia.
Established in the 1950s, the base was developed as one of the Spanish-American air bases created under agreements between Spain and the United States. Construction began in 1953, and the first B-47 Stratojet aircraft arrived in 1958. Today it hosts Spanish Air and Space Force units, including Ala 11 with Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, and the United States Air Force 496th Air Base Squadron.
The airfield has a single main runway of approximately 3,596 metres, capable of supporting large military aircraft and refuelling operations. The base operates 24 hours a day and handles military, government and authorized flights rather than scheduled commercial passenger services.
Access to the base is restricted, and road connections link it to Seville and the surrounding towns of the province. Because it is primarily a military installation, passenger services are limited and travel arrangements should be confirmed in advance.
