Miyakejima Airport (MYE)

Miyakejima Airport is a small island airport serving Miyake Village and the surrounding island of Miyakejima, one of the Izu Islands under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Opened in 1966 and operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau of Port and Harbor, it has long been a key air link between the island and mainland Tokyo. Scheduled flights were suspended after the 2000 volcanic eruption, when all residents were evacuated, and regular services resumed in 2008.

The airport is located in the eastern part of Miyakejima, in the Tsubota area, roughly 19 km east of the main village area. It has a single 1,200-metre runway and one compact terminal building designed for domestic commuter operations. Today, New Central Airservice connects the airport with Chofu Airfield in Tokyo, with flights of about 50 minutes operating several times daily.

Passengers can continue to Ako and other parts of the island by Miyake village bus, taxi or rental car, and the airport provides free parking for drivers. From the village and nearby ports, ferry and helicopter services offer further connections to Tokyo and neighbouring islands.

Although the airport is modest in size, it offers a straightforward travel experience with quick check-in and short walking distances, making it a practical entry point for visitors exploring Miyakejima's volcanic landscape, dive sites and coastal villages.
