Mikkeli Airport (MIK)

Mikkeli Airport serves the city of Mikkeli and the wider South Savo region as a small municipal airport with international status. Located about four kilometres from the city centre, it functions primarily as a base for general aviation, charter flights, training flights, ambulance and fire surveillance operations, as well as military and cargo activity.

The airport is operated by the City of Mikkeli and is one of Finland's longest continuously municipally maintained airports. Planning for the airfield began in 1932, and the first aircraft landed at Mikkeli in the late 1930s. Today the airport has a 1,702-metre asphalt runway with an ILS precision approach system and remains open all year round.

The single terminal building keeps the passenger experience straightforward, with free parking directly in front of the terminal, a waiting area, vending machines, a conference room and family facilities. The airport also offers security screening, rescue, de-icing, refuelling and cargo handling services.

For onward travel, taxis are available around the clock, and bicycles can be borrowed from the airport for the short journey into Mikkeli. Private transfers and rental cars provide convenient options for continuing to the city centre, Lake Saimaa destinations and other parts of Eastern Finland.
