About Matei Airport
Matei Airport is the main domestic airport serving Taveuni, an island in Fiji’s Vanua Levu Group. Located at Matei on the northern end of the island, it provides scheduled connections to Nadi and Suva through Fiji Link and Northern Air, supporting tourism and local travel to the island known for its rainforest, waterfalls and dive sites.
The airport is compact and passenger-friendly, with a single terminal and an asphalt runway measuring approximately 910 metres. It has long been suited to smaller aircraft such as the Twin Otter, and planned upgrades aim to extend the runway so larger regional aircraft can operate to and from Taveuni.
Matei Airport sits very close to the small settlement of Matei and within easy reach of several northern resorts. Waiyevo, the island’s main centre on the west coast, is roughly 20 km away by road, with travel times typically around 30 to 45 minutes depending on conditions.
