Masasi Airport (XMI)

Masasi Airport is a small regional airfield serving Masasi, an inland town in the Mtwara Region of southern Tanzania. Operated by the Tanzania Airports Authority, it provides a modest but useful domestic aviation link for the town and its surrounding communities.

The airfield lies about 3 km west of Masasi town centre, close to local roads, so the journey into town by taxi or private vehicle normally takes only a few minutes. It operates with a single runway designated 14/32, approximately 1,273 metres long, and a compact terminal area rather than separate passenger terminal buildings.

For travellers, the airport is a convenient local point of entry to Masasi, while the region's main coastal gateway at Mtwara lies roughly 150 to 200 kilometres to the east by road. This makes Masasi Airport particularly useful for local, government, charter and community flights serving the inland part of the region.

Facilities are limited compared with larger airports, so passengers should expect a small, practical terminal and confirm arrangements such as transfers and vehicle hire in advance. Despite its size, the airport plays an important role in keeping Masasi and the surrounding district connected by air.
