Marechal Cunha Machado International Airport is the main airport serving São Luís and the state of Maranhão in northeastern Brazil. Formerly known as Tirirical Airport, it handles most of the region's commercial air traffic and connects São Luís with major Brazilian cities, while also supporting international operations.
The current passenger terminal opened in June 1998 and the airport was upgraded to international category in October 2004. Located in the Tirirical neighbourhood, it lies about 15 km from downtown São Luís and serves both leisure and business travellers, as well as visitors heading to destinations across Maranhão.
