Located about 5 km west of the Mae Sot town centre, the airport sits close to the Thailand–Myanmar border at Myawaddy, making it an important gateway for cross-border travel and commerce in the region. A new passenger terminal opened in April 2019, designed to handle up to 1.7 million passengers a year and replacing the older facility.
