About Macaé Airport
Macaé Airport (MEA) is the main air gateway serving Macaé and the northern coast of Rio de Janeiro state. Established in the 1960s as a general aviation airfield, it later developed into a key base for the offshore oil industry in the Campos Basin.
Located approximately 7 km north of Macaé city centre, the airport has a single passenger terminal and handles domestic commercial flights alongside a large volume of helicopter operations to offshore platforms. Zurich Airport Brasil has operated the concession since December 2019.
Ground connections include taxis, municipal bus lines, private transfers, chauffeur services and car rental, linking the airport with Macaé, Rio das Ostras, Cabo Frio, Búzios and other nearby coastal destinations.
A new 1,410-metre runway completed in late 2024 supports the airport's offshore aviation role, complementing existing terminal facilities and passenger services.
