Luozi Airport (LZI)

Luozi Airport is a small regional airfield serving Luozi, a Congo River port town in Kongo Central Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It provides an intermittent domestic air link for the Luozi area, offering a more direct alternative to the long road journey from Kinshasa, which includes a river ferry crossing.

Aviation activity at Luozi began in the late 1920s, when a landing strip was established to support trade and travel, and the first recorded landing took place in 1928. The airfield was later marked as a minor airfield on 1947 aeronautical maps and remains at the same site today.

The airport has a single unpaved dirt and gravel runway, designated 13/31 and measuring roughly 1,030 metres. It has no conventional passenger terminal; instead, a modest administrative structure is used for passenger processing and cargo staging. Operations are intermittent and typically handled by humanitarian, mission or private charter operators.

Situated about 1 km from the Luozi town centre on the northern bank of the Congo River, the airport offers a useful connection for local and regional travel. Onward transport is usually arranged by motorbike or private vehicle, while longer journeys are generally routed through Kinshasa.
