Lhasa Gonggar International Airport is the main airport serving Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, and the only international airport in Tibet. Opened in 1966, it sits at an elevation of about 3,570 meters, making it one of the highest airports in the world.
The airport is located in Gonggar County, Shannan, southwest of central Lhasa, and connects Tibet with major Chinese cities and international destinations such as Kathmandu. Its current terminal complex includes Terminal 3, opened in 2021 as the main domestic terminal, Terminal 2 for international operations, and Terminal 1 for domestic and business aviation.
The airport is about 62 km from the Lhasa city centre and is linked to the city by the Lhasa Airport Expressway, airport shuttle buses, taxis, private transfers and rental cars, with typical journeys taking roughly 40 to 60 minutes.
