About Larissa Air Base
Larissa Air Base, officially known as Larissa State Airport 'Thessaly', is a military airfield serving the city of Larissa and the wider Thessaly region. Built in 1912, it was the site of the first landing of a Greek military aircraft, named Daedalus, in September of that year.
The airport operated as the commercial airport of Larissa until 1997, when civilian traffic was discontinued. Today the airfield is used by the Hellenic Air Force and is home to the 110th Combat Wing, which operates F-16 and unmanned aircraft.
Located about 3 km from central Larissa, close to the suburban railway line to Thessaloniki, the base sits northeast of the city centre and has direct access to the local road network.
Because it is a military installation, the airfield does not provide public passenger terminals or scheduled commercial flights. Travel to and from the area is generally arranged by road, with private cars, taxis, transfers and rental vehicles providing onward connections across Thessaly and central Greece.
