About La Désirade Airport
La Désirade Airport is a small airfield serving La Désirade, the easternmost inhabited island of the Guadeloupe archipelago. It provides a light aviation link between the island and the rest of Guadeloupe, mainly for private flights and small inter-island aircraft.
The airfield, also known as Grande Anse Airport, sits on the island's south shore near the coast at Les Galets. Its single runway is about 600 metres long and is used by small aircraft; the runway has been resurfaced and the rebuilt terminal building provides basic passenger shelter. The airfield is not used at night.
Located roughly 2 km from Beauséjour, the island's main settlement, the airport is a short drive from the ferry pier and local guesthouses. La Désirade itself is reached from mainland Guadeloupe by ferry from Saint-François or by light aircraft, and the island is about 11 km long.
Facilities are deliberately simple, and most visitors continue from the airport by taxi, bicycle, scooter or pre-arranged transfer. As a compact island gateway, it offers a quiet arrival point for travelers heading to the island's beaches, coastal paths and Creole villages.
