About Kuusamo Airport
Located in northeast Finland, Kuusamo Airport is the main air gateway to the town of Kuusamo and the popular Ruka ski and holiday resort. It also serves as an entry point to some of Finland's best-known national parks, including Oulanka, Salla, Riisitunturi, Iso-Syöte and Hossa.
The airport's history dates back to the early 1970s, when the first airport and air traffic control building opened and scheduled flights between Oulu and Kuusamo began. The passenger terminal opened in 1988, and the runway has since been extended to 2,500 metres. Kuusamo was granted international airport status in 2005, and the terminal was renovated and expanded in 2009.
Operated by Finavia, the airport has a single passenger terminal and is located about 6 km northeast of the Kuusamo town centre and roughly 27 km from Ruka. Regular buses connect the airport with Ruka and Salla National Park, while taxis and rental cars are available for onward travel.
