About Kulusuk Airport
Kulusuk Airport is the main air gateway to East Greenland and the town of Tasiilaq. The airstrip was built by the United States in 1956 to support a Distant Early Warning Line station, and the defence station closed in 1991; a new terminal building opened in 1995.
Located on Kulusuk island in the Sermersooq municipality of southeastern Greenland, the airport serves domestic flights and seasonal international services, including Air Greenland connections to Nuuk and summer Icelandair flights to Iceland. Its single compact terminal handles arrivals and departures in one area.
The airport is separated from Tasiilaq by sea, so onward travel is normally by helicopter or boat rather than road. Helicopter transfers take about 10 minutes, while boat transfers are available in the summer and take roughly 45 minutes.
