Koggala Airport (KCT)

Koggala Airport is a small domestic airport and Sri Lanka Air Force base serving Galle and the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Originally established as RAF Koggala during the Second World War, the airfield was re-established as SLAF Koggala in 1984 and now supports domestic flights, charter operations and military use.

Located about 14 km south of Galle between Koggala Lake and the Indian Ocean, the airport provides a compact single passenger terminal for arrivals and departures. Domestic services and seaplane operations link Koggala with Colombo and other destinations, offering a faster alternative to the long road journey along the southern coast.

The airport sits close to the A2 Galle–Matara road and is reached by taxi, tuk-tuk or pre-arranged transfer, while the nearby Koggala railway station offers coastal rail connections. This makes it a practical entry point for travellers heading to Galle Fort, Unawatuna, Mirissa, Hikkaduwa and other beach areas.

Facilities are modest but functional, including a waiting lounge, a small cafeteria, a retail outlet and air-conditioned waiting areas. The airport primarily handles low-volume domestic traffic, so arrivals and departures are generally quick and easy.
