Khujirt Airport (HJT) is a small regional airfield in Khujirt sum, Övörkhangai Province, in central Mongolia. It sits at an elevation of about 1,680 metres and serves the surrounding steppe and the Orkhon Valley, one of the country's most important historical areas.
The airport has a single grass runway of about 2,200 metres, suitable mainly for light aircraft and charter flights. Scheduled commercial services are currently very limited, and the airfield is used primarily for private charters, regional travel and emergency landings.
Its main value for travelers is its location near Kharkhorin, the site of the ancient capital of Karakorum, roughly 33 km to the north, and the nearby Erdene Zuu Monastery. Khujirt town itself is known for its mineral springs and sanatorium resorts.
Because the airport has no regular taxis, public buses or rental desks, onward travel should be arranged in advance. Private transfers, pre-booked 4WD vehicles and local guides are the most practical ways to continue to Khujirt, Kharkhorin and other destinations in the region.
