About Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport
Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport is the original international airport serving Ulaanbaatar and the surrounding region. Regular flights began in 1961, and the terminal was upgraded in 1986 to handle international traffic, followed by further expansion in the 1990s.
Located about 18 km southwest of central Ulaanbaatar in the Khan-Uul district, on the opposite bank of the Tuul River, the airport long served as Mongolia's main gateway for domestic and international travel.
After the new Chinggis Khaan International Airport opened in July 2021, commercial passenger operations moved to the new facility and Buyant-Ukhaa became semi-operational, handling government, special and limited flights.
The airport is connected to Ulaanbaatar by road, with access to taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and car rental for onward journeys to the city centre and the surrounding Töv region.
