Khon Kaen International Airport is the main air gateway to Khon Kaen and the broader Isan region of northeastern Thailand. Opened in 1963, the airport has grown from a small regional airfield into a modern facility serving the province's business, education and tourism traffic.
Located about 8 km northwest of central Khon Kaen, the airport mainly handles domestic flights, with connections to Bangkok and other Thai cities. A newer three-storey passenger terminal opened in 2021, expanding capacity and improving the passenger experience.
The airport is connected to the city by road, including Route 12, as well as the airport bus, taxis and private transfers, making the short journey to the centre straightforward.
With shops, food outlets, cafés, lounges and parking, the airport provides a compact and convenient base for visitors arriving in Khon Kaen and northeastern Thailand.
