About Kauhajoki Airfield

Kauhajoki Airfield (KHJ) is a small general aviation aerodrome serving Kauhajoki, a town in Finland's Southern Ostrobothnia region. It functions mainly as a base for private, business, gliding and recreational flying, and does not handle regular scheduled passenger services.

Located about 15 km east-northeast of the town centre, the airfield has a single asphalt runway designated 07/25, measuring 1,160 by 23 metres. The site opened to public aviation in 1973 after earlier military use and is owned by the local aviation association Air Pilot ry, which operates it alongside local flying and gliding clubs.

Passengers arriving at the field are met on the apron near the clubhouse rather than in a traditional terminal. Facilities are modest, including a clubhouse and a seasonal canteen, and there is no public refuelling service, so visiting pilots should plan fuel and support in advance.

The airfield is reached by road, with the drive to central Kauhajoki normally taking around 20 to 25 minutes. It serves as a convenient local gateway for general aviation traffic visiting Southern Ostrobothnia.
