About Karamay Guhai Airport
Karamay Guhai Airport is the main airport serving Karamay, an oil-producing city in northern Xinjiang. It functions as a domestic regional airport and a secondary aviation hub for the northern Xinjiang region, connecting the city with destinations across Xinjiang and major Chinese cities.
The current airport reopened on 10 April 2006 after the original Karamay Airport, which dated back to 1958, was relocated. It was renamed Karamay Guhai Airport in November 2021, and its passenger facilities have since been expanded with a second terminal.
Located about 15 kilometres from central Karamay, the airport is reached via National Highway G217, taxis and a free airport shuttle bus that operates during flight times. It handles domestic routes to Urumqi, Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Chengdu, Guangzhou and other cities, and has supported temporary international flights through its temporary aviation port.
The airport has two terminal buildings, T1 and T2, together providing about 15,000 square metres of space with jet bridge gates, check-in counters, waiting areas and lounges. Joy Air, Urumqi Air and China Express have bases here, making it a practical gateway for travellers to Karamay and the surrounding northern Xinjiang region.
