About Kalamata International Airport
Kalamata International Airport is the main air gateway to Kalamata and the Messinia region in the southern Peloponnese. It has operated since 1959 as a joint civil and military airport and is officially named after Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos.
Located roughly 8–10 km west of Kalamata city centre, the airport mainly handles seasonal international flights during the summer months, alongside some domestic services. Its compact single terminal serves both Schengen and non-Schengen traffic.
The airport is connected to Kalamata by taxi, a limited KTEL bus service and car rental, while pre-booked transfers are common for travellers continuing to Costa Navarino, Pylos, Methoni and the Mani peninsula. There is no rail link at the airport.
A long-term concession agreement signed in 2026 plans a new terminal, additional check-in counters and upgraded passenger facilities, reinforcing the airport's role as the region's key travel gateway.
