About Kaélé Airport
Kaélé Airport is a small public-use airfield serving Kaélé, the chief town of the Mayo-Kani division in Cameroon's Far North Region, close to the border with Chad. Built to open up the cotton-producing area for the former CFDT, the predecessor of Sodecoton, it once handled around two flights a week carrying cotton and personnel.
Today the airfield mainly supports government, military and specialized regional charter operations rather than scheduled commercial flights. It has a single unpaved runway, 10/28, of about 1,295 metres, and sits at an elevation of roughly 389 metres. Passenger handling is basic, with no large-scale terminal building.
Located in the prefectoral district of Kaélé and only a short distance from the town centre, the airport is convenient for reaching Kaélé itself and for continuing by road to Maroua, the regional capital about 100 km to the north. There are no formal taxi ranks or bus services at the airfield, so ground transport is normally arranged in advance.
Facilities at the airfield are very limited, so travelers should bring supplies and local currency from Kaélé town. For scheduled commercial connections, most travelers use Maroua Salak Airport and continue by road.
