About Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport
Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport is the principal airport serving Patna, the capital of Bihar, and one of the busiest airports in eastern India. It is named after the Indian independence activist and political leader Jayaprakash Narayan, popularly known as Lok Nayak.
The airport has long functioned as Bihar's main domestic gateway, connecting Patna with major cities across India. A new integrated terminal building was inaugurated in May 2025 and opened for flight operations on 3 June 2025, replacing the older passenger terminal and greatly increasing handling capacity.
The terminal spans around 65,150 square metres and is designed to handle about 3,000 passengers during peak hours and up to 10 million passengers annually. It offers 64 check-in counters, automatic tray retrieval systems, aerobridges, lounges, dining outlets, retail shops and a multi-level car park.
The airport lies roughly 5–7 km southwest of central Patna, close to the Patna Junction railway area. Travelers can continue to the city centre by taxi, app-based ride services, government buses, private transfers or rental cars.
