About Iranamadu Seaplane Base
Iranamadu Seaplane Base is a small water aerodrome located on the Iranamadu Tank in Kilinochchi District, Northern Province, Sri Lanka. Also known as the Iranamadu Waterdrome, it supports seaplane and floatplane operations serving the north of the island.
The base sits about 6 km from Kilinochchi town on a large reservoir that also supplies irrigation water to surrounding paddy fields. The tank has a history of seaplane use, and it remains one of the water bodies identified for possible seaplane tourism development in Sri Lanka.
As a compact water aerodrome, it does not operate a conventional passenger terminal, so services are limited compared with major airports. Access is by road from Kilinochchi, with onward connections available toward Jaffna, Vavuniya, and other towns in the Northern Province.
For travelers arriving by seaplane, the lakeside location offers a direct approach to the Kilinochchi area and a practical starting point for exploring the region.
