About Ilopango International Airport
Ilopango International Airport is a joint civil-military airfield serving San Salvador and the wider San Salvador department. Located in the municipality of Ilopango, east of the capital, it was El Salvador's main international gateway before scheduled international traffic moved to Comalapa.
Today the airport mainly handles executive, private, regional and military aviation. A modernized passenger terminal was inaugurated in 2016, providing new customs, migration and police offices, a waiting area and expanded vehicle parking.
Located about 10 km east of central San Salvador, the airport is connected to the capital by road. Travellers can continue by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service or rental car, while the country's main scheduled international flights operate through Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport.
