About Ihosy Airport
Ihosy Airport (IHO) is a small domestic aerodrome serving Ihosy, the capital of the Ihorombe region in southern Madagascar. It functions primarily as a gateway for private and charter flights into the southern highlands rather than a scheduled commercial airport.
Located about 4 km from the town of Ihosy at Ankadilanambe, the airport has a single unpaved runway and a very basic terminal. Regular commercial services have been suspended for many years, and the site is currently used mainly by small aircraft, private operators and occasional charter flights.
Plans announced with Aéroports de Madagascar (ADEMA) and regional authorities foresee the rehabilitation and reopening of the aerodrome, including surfacing the runway and preparing it for aircraft such as the ATR 42, to support tourism and regional connectivity.
The airport is positioned close to the RN7 road corridor, making it a practical starting point for journeys to Isalo National Park and other destinations in the southern highlands. Travelers should arrange transfers in advance and expect limited airport facilities.
