Hulunbuir Hailar International Airport is the main air gateway to Hailar District and the wider Hulunbuir region of Inner Mongolia. The airport opened in 1932 as Hailar Dongshan Airport and has been modernized in stages, most recently with the opening of Terminal 2 in 2018 and its renaming as an international airport in 2025.
Located about 3 km from central Hailar, the airport operates Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and a separate international terminal, with a combined terminal area of 28,127 m². It is classified as a 4D airport and connects Hulunbuir with major Chinese cities as well as a small number of international destinations.
The airport is linked to Hailar by shuttle bus, city bus and taxi, with typical taxi journeys to the city centre taking about 20 minutes. Road access also connects it to nearby areas of Hulunbuir and the Ewenki Autonomous Banner.
