About Huaihua Zhijiang Airport
Huaihua Zhijiang Airport is the main civil airport serving Huaihua, a prefecture-level city in western Hunan, and the surrounding region. It links the area by scheduled domestic flights with destinations including Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Nanning, Sanya and other major Chinese cities. The airport has a long history: the original Zhijiang airfield was built in 1936 and served as an important China–US air force base during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, including as a base for the Flying Tigers. After reconstruction, the airport reopened for civil aviation on December 19, 2005, and a new passenger terminal opened in September 2023. Located about 31 km from downtown Huaihua in Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County, the airport is connected to the city by shuttle buses to Huaihua West and East coach stations, taxis and road links. Nearby Zhijiang Railway Station and Huaihua South Railway Station offer onward rail connections. The single terminal building brings together check-in, security, waiting, dining and shopping areas, lounges and passenger services, providing a compact and practical gateway for travel across western Hunan.
