About Hiroshima Heliport
Hiroshima Heliport is a public heliport in the Nishi Ward of Hiroshima, Japan. It opened in November 2012 on the site of the former Hiroshima–Nishi Airport, which had served the city as Hiroshima Airport from 1961 until scheduled commercial flights ended.
The heliport is operated by Hiroshima Prefecture together with Hiroshima City and is used mainly for emergency medical flights, disaster prevention and firefighting operations, police aviation, private charters and scenic flights. In 2023 it supported helicopter movements during the G7 Hiroshima Summit.
Located roughly 6 km southwest of central Hiroshima, the site is reached by road via the Hiroshima Expressway Route 3 Kanon interchange. Journeys to the city centre typically take around 15 to 20 minutes, although there is no direct scheduled public transport to the heliport itself.
Passenger facilities are limited, with no public shops, restaurants or airline lounges; the former terminal building now houses offices, including those of the Sanfrecce Hiroshima football club. Travelers using private or charter flights should arrange onward transport in advance.
