Hawassa International Airport is the main airport serving Hawassa, the capital of Ethiopia's Sidama Region, and the surrounding Great Rift Valley area. Completed in 2016, the airport was built to support the city's growing industrial and economic role and began receiving scheduled Ethiopian Airlines flights in April of that year.
Located roughly 10 km from the city centre and about 273 km south of Addis Ababa, the airport mainly handles domestic connections between Hawassa and the capital, with onward links available through Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Its single passenger terminal is organized around a two-level layout for arrivals and departures.
The airport is reached by taxi, private transfer, car rental and local road links from Hawassa, making travel between the terminal and city centre hotels, business areas and lakeside destinations relatively straightforward.
