Hateruma Airport is the southernmost airport in Japan, located on Hateruma Island in Okinawa Prefecture's Yaeyama Islands. Its 800-metre runway serves light aircraft and links the island with New Ishigaki Airport.
The airport sits about 2 km east of Hateruma's main village and functions as the island's air gateway. Scheduled flights between Hateruma and Ishigaki resumed in January 2024, with First Air (Daiichi Kōkū) operating DHC-6-400 aircraft around three days a week, subject to weather conditions.
The current terminal was completed in 2015 and includes a compact waiting area, check-in facilities, tourist information and parking. Because services are limited and weather can disrupt flights, travelers are advised to check schedules and consider the ferry alternative between Hateruma and Ishigaki.
From Ishigaki, Hateruma is reachable by air in about 30 minutes or by ferry in roughly 60 minutes, making Hateruma Airport a convenient entry point for exploring Japan's southernmost inhabited island.
