About Hainanzhou Gonghe Airport
Hainanzhou Gonghe Airport is a regional airport being developed in Gonghe County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. Once open, it will be the prefecture's first civil airport and a new gateway for the Qinghai Lake area.
Construction began in December 2023, and the civil part of the airport was officially named Hainanzhou Gonghe Airport in December 2025. The airport is expected to begin operations in 2026. The site sits at around 3,064 metres above sea level, making it a high-altitude airport.
Located about 12 kilometres from the Gonghe county seat, the airport has a 6,300-square-metre passenger terminal with two boarding bridges and five C-class aircraft stands. Its 5,200-metre runway is China's longest civil airport runway and is designed to support operations in the high-altitude environment.
The airport is connected to Gonghe by the airport expressway, with a drive of about 20 minutes. Qinghai Lake lies around 60 kilometres from the airport, and both Qinghai Lake and Longyangxia can be reached in about an hour by road, making the airport a practical entry point for the region's lake and canyon scenery.
