Hachijojima Airport (HAC)

Hachijojima Airport is the main regional airport serving Hachijojima, a volcanic island in Tokyo's Izu Islands. The site originated as a naval airfield in 1927 and opened as a civil airport in 1962, providing the island with a vital scheduled link to mainland Japan. Its 2,000-metre runway supports modern jet aircraft used on daily services to and from Tokyo.

Located in the Okago area of Hachijo-machi, roughly two kilometres from the main settlement of Mitsune, the airport connects the island with Haneda Airport through three daily ANA round trips. It also serves as the base for the Tokyo Ai-land Shuttle, which operates helicopter connections to the neighbouring islands of Aogashima and Mikurajima.

Passenger services are concentrated in a compact terminal completed in 2002, with check-in and arrivals on the first floor and departures, security screening, dining, and shopping on the second floor. The simple layout keeps walking distances short and allows most passengers to complete formalities quickly.

Onward travel from the airport is straightforward, with taxis, the Hachijo Town Bus, and car rental available at the terminal. Because the island is small, hotels, hot springs, ports, and coastal attractions are generally only a short drive away, making the airport a convenient entry point for exploring Hachijojima.
