Golmud Airport is the main airport serving Golmud and the Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai. Civil aviation operations date back to 1974, and the airport has since been expanded to support regional travel on high-altitude routes.
Located about 12 km northwest of central Golmud, the airport is a civil-military joint-use facility at an elevation of 2,842 m.
