About Gifu Airport
Gifu Airport (QGU) is a Japan Air Self-Defense Force airfield in Kakamigahara City, Gifu Prefecture. The site has roots in the former Kakamigahara Airfield, opened in 1917, and remains one of Japan's longest-used airfields.
Located about 13 km east of central Gifu and close to Nagoya, the airfield primarily supports military, government, and general aviation operations rather than scheduled commercial passenger flights. It has a single paved runway and associated base facilities, and the adjacent Gifu-Kakamigahara Air and Space Museum is a notable local attraction.
The airport is reached by road and by the Meitetsu Kakamigahara Line, with stations such as Mikakino and Kakamigahara Shiyakusho-mae within walking distance of different gates.
