About Geneva International Airport

Geneva Airport is the main international airport serving Geneva and the wider Lake Geneva region. Established as an airfield at Cointrin in 1919 and officially inaugurated in 1920, it has grown into a compact, modern gateway used by both business and leisure travellers.

Located about 4 km northwest of the city centre in Meyrin, close to the French border, the airport is especially important for diplomats, international organizations and visitors travelling to the Swiss Alps. Its main passenger terminal is divided into a Swiss sector and a French sector, with a smaller seasonal terminal providing extra check-in capacity during busy winter months.

The airport is connected to central Geneva by a railway station located directly beneath the terminal, with trains reaching Geneva-Cornavin in around 7 minutes. Buses, taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and road links also provide onward connections to the city and surrounding areas.

Passengers have access to restaurants, cafés, shops, airline lounges, free Wi-Fi, charging points and assistance services, making the airport a practical starting point for journeys across Switzerland, France and the Alpine region.
