General Ulpiano Paez Airport serves Salinas and the Santa Elena Peninsula, a Pacific coastal region in southwestern Ecuador. It operates as a public/military joint-use airport and provides the main air access point for the Salinas area and its beach destinations.
The airport's facilities were rebuilt and inaugurated in January 2014, adding a passenger terminal of about 1,800 square metres, a control tower and supporting infrastructure. It has two asphalt runways and one compact passenger terminal for domestic flights.
Located roughly 2 km from the Salinas city centre, the airport is close to beaches such as Chipipe and Punta Carnero and within road reach of La Libertad and other coastal towns. Travellers can continue by taxi, private transfer or rental car.
