About Emmen Air Base
Emmen Air Base is a Swiss Air Force airfield located in Emmen, just north of Lucerne in central Switzerland. It is home to flying squadrons, the Patrouille Suisse aerobatic team, the drone command and the Air Force Pilot School, and it also supports training and operational flights with jet aircraft.
The airfield operates mainly as a military installation and serves as an alternate airfield for Swiss Air Force aircraft. Civil use is limited to occasional, authorized flights, so there is no regular scheduled passenger traffic.
Located around 6 km from Lucerne city centre, Emmen Air Base has direct road access and lies close to the A2 motorway, making onward travel by car, taxi or private transfer straightforward. From 2026 the base is set to become one of the Swiss Air Force's four main locations.
For authorized arrivals and departures, the airfield offers a practical connection to Lucerne, Lake Lucerne and the surrounding central Swiss region, with limited ground handling and coordination services rather than the full range of a commercial airport.
