About El Aguacate Airport
El Aguacate Airport is a regional airport serving Catacamas, the main city of Olancho department in eastern Honduras. The airport handles domestic passenger flights and provides air connections between this largely rural region and other parts of the country. The current airport was inaugurated in October 2011, redeveloping the former El Aguacate airstrip into a paved regional facility with a passenger terminal and an asphalt runway of about 1,540 metres. The site lies roughly 7 km from central Catacamas and is reached by the road toward Dulce Nombre de Culmí. Scheduled domestic flights have connected Catacamas with destinations including Guanaja and Puerto Lempira, and the airport also handles charter operations. Its compact terminal keeps check-in, security and arrivals procedures simple for passengers. For onward travel, the airport is served by taxis, private transfers and rental vehicles, making it possible to reach Catacamas and other locations in Olancho without difficulty.
