Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (HDS) is a small joint civil-military airport just outside Hoedspruit in Limpopo, South Africa. The civil terminal was created in the late 1990s from an unused portion of Air Force Base Hoedspruit at the southern end of the airfield.
It serves as a convenient gateway to the Greater Kruger region, including private game reserves such as Timbavati, Thornybush and Klaserie, as well as Kruger National Park and the towns of Tzaneen and Phalaborwa. Scheduled flights connect Hoedspruit with Johannesburg and Cape Town, alongside private charter operations.
The airport lies about 8 km south of Hoedspruit town off the R40, with typical driving times to the town centre of around 10 to 15 minutes. Visitors continue by pre-arranged lodge transfers, private transfers, taxis or rental cars to safari lodges, reserves and nearby Kruger gates.
A mid-2020 refurbishment expanded the departure lounge, added check-in counters and enlarged the baggage claim area. The compact terminal now includes a lounge, restaurant, shop, car rental desks and shaded parking, keeping the passenger experience simple and focused on fast regional connections.
