Cotopaxi International Airport is the main airport serving Latacunga, the capital of Cotopaxi Province in Ecuador's central highlands. Situated roughly 3 km north of the city centre, it acts as a regional gateway to the city and to nearby destinations such as Cotopaxi National Park and the Quilotoa Loop, while also providing an alternative access point for travellers heading to Quito.
The airport combines civil and military functions and is shared with the Ecuadorian Air Force and a local aviation school. The terminal dates back to the 1960s and was rebuilt and expanded between 2009 and 2011, creating a two-storey passenger building with separate national and international areas and a runway of around 3.7 km that can accommodate large aircraft.
Regular scheduled commercial flights have been limited in recent years, with most activity linked to military, training, private and charter operations. The airport remains an important piece of infrastructure for central Ecuador and is positioned as an alternative to Quito's international hub when needed.
For ground travel, the airport is a short taxi ride from Latacunga, where regional buses connect to Quito and other highland towns.
