About Coimbatore International Airport
Coimbatore International Airport is the main airport serving Coimbatore, one of the major industrial and textile centres of Tamil Nadu. Located in Peelamedu on Avinashi Road, about 10 km from the city centre, the airport connects western Tamil Nadu and the surrounding Kongu region with domestic and international destinations.
The airfield dates back to 1940, when it began as a civil aerodrome, and gained international airport status in 2012. Passenger services operate from a single integrated terminal building that handles both domestic and international flights, with separate departure and arrival processing areas.
The airport is connected to Coimbatore by public buses, prepaid taxis, app-based cabs and car rentals, making onward travel to the city centre and nearby areas relatively straightforward. It also provides access to popular destinations such as Ooty and Coonoor in the Nilgiris and nearby Palakkad in Kerala.
With restaurants, cafés, shops, lounges, free Wi-Fi, charging points, currency exchange and accessibility services, the airport serves both business and leisure travellers arriving in the region.
